Opus One 2002 Opus One thinned the 2002 vintage to the lowest per-acre yield in a decade, encouraging quality and concentration of flavors. This wine shows aromas of dried strawberry, vanilla bean and mocha with flavors of cassis, black cherry, plum and espresso. Offering a lean, vibrant entry with profound mid-palate density, the wine finishes with bittersweet chocolate and a hint of smoke. 152.00 Bottle Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 Cool temperatures through spring and summer, coupled with wet weather during bloom, led to light Cabernet Sauvignon crops with small berries and great flavor concentration. This wine has deep, intense blackberry and cassis character with mineral, violet and dark chocolate complexity. It shows smoky oak from aging in new barrels. 104.00 Bottle Silver Oak "Napa Valley" Cabernet Sauvignon A classic Cabernet Sauvignon with a dark, ruby-red color and an exquisite nose of cassis, violets, roasting coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and cloves. It has a rich, balanced mouth-feel dripping with ripe berries and chocolate. Medium tannins are well integrated into the long finish. 93.00 Bottle Cain Five 2002 The estate vineyard is planted to the five classic Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. The 2002 Cain Five is very round, smooth, and full-bodied. Although the first notes are of mocha and vanilla, a very pure cassis is hiding in the background (which bodes well), and the full, sweet entry fills out to a satisfying mid-palate, leading to a long, smooth finish. 88.00 Bottle Duckhorn "Estate" Merlot 2001 This is a complex wine with excellent oak integration, balanced acids, silky tannins and a long, fruity finish. The bouquet is brimming with aromas of raspberry and blackberry followed by distinctive elements of earth, spice and smoked meat. Filled with sweet black fruits and an underlying essence of ripe strawberry, the Estate grown Merlot also offers enticing accents of warm caramel, vanilla and cream. 79.00 Bottle Sterling "Reserve" Chardonnay 2003 Sterling's philosophy is to take an active role in handcrafting their wines. The grapes for the Reserve Chardonnay were harvested in September and whole cluster pressed to accentuate the fresh apple and pear flavors without bruising the berries and produce juice with higher phenolic content. This process, although time consuming, yields the finest juice possible from the fruit. 50.00 Bottle Artesa "Prestige-Carneros" Pinot Noir 2003 A marvelous blending of Pinot Noir, Pommard Dijon 667 and Martini clones, this Pinot overflows with bright cherry and raspberry aromas. This fruit is complemented by aromas and hints of cinnamon, roasting coffee, pipe tobacco, chocolate and cedar. Exceptional mid-palate weight and a silky finish make this a tactile joy. As only the finest wines can, a gentle tingle of fruit leaves you eager to enjoy the next sip. 40.00 Bottle |
